If you are like me, I am sending you a huge hug today…no kid should grow up feeling that way…I grew up thinking that I didn’t matter, I was a bother, someone who just created chaos…… this underlying belief impacted my adult life in many negative ways. Guess what I have learned……I MATTER! Not because someone tells me that….but because I tell myself that…at the end of the day my opinion in this area is the only one that counts.
To help change my beliefs in this area I actually made a recording speaking to myself telling myself all of the things I needed and wanted to hear. I listened to it every morning for a few weeks, now it is ingrained in me….whenever I feel myself slip or get shaky I will pull that recording out and listen to it again….MY voice…telling ME that I MATTER. It is a big warm hug on a cold snowy day.
I hope you can feel the intensity in this one. This is the day I decided to stop playing small and stop tinkerin with being a soloprenuer and get real. Two weeks after this day I went official – I overhauled my company brought in two long term team members and set the course for what is my forever role! Wow! With the business model that I have put together, it has enough flexibility and fluidity that this WILL be what I do forever. I will forever from this day call my own shots….. there is so much freedom in just going for it. One of my mentors taught me fail fast fail forward. It truly is the difference maker!
Curious about how the impact this little exercise has had on my life? It took me 19 days to get the courage to radically change my life….take a moment and let that sink in…..
Today is day 7 – the end of the original challenge – I am so grateful to my mentor for the push. My thoughts for this morning…..why is it so radical to love yourself and how you look? Where do we learn that from? How do we NOT perpetuate or project that on our children? How do we break the cycle of comparison and learn to just truly love our unique selves? Enjoy the journey…. so many unanswered questions…glad I am going for another 90 days! Have a beautiful day!
A quick technical note – the words you will see on all of the quotes are not solely my words but rather adaptations of quotes and sayings I have seen or heard and collected along the way. As part of this process, some of them were aspirational for that day and some were meant as reinforcement for the day.
The magic in this project is that for each post and photo, I was mentally and physically connecting with the words that I put together with the photo. All photos were taken on my cell phone on location in South Lake Tahoe, Maui, New York City, and California. I tried to notate to give credit to the person who said the words originally and will be updating this library overtime to make sure I have properly given credit where credit is due.
Please forgive me for not having everything properly notated at the time of this writing – do not let that distract you from the journey.
I am incredibly grateful to all of the mentors and great thought leaders out there that have inspired me. Enjoy the day!
hahahah so….I have been posting photos of ME for a few days now and the world hasnʻt stopped moving, which was my silly fear…..hahaha so I will keep going. I have been printing out my posts and I am lining them up on my wall – my personal challenge was to go for 90 days, the kids have since told me to go to 100! By posting these photos up on my wall, the kids have been reading them – it is powerful. We get to talk about how important word choice is. I tell them nobody ever taught me this which is why I am doing this exercise, so we will learn together because it is so important.
One of the thoughts I have been having is….is it possible to be too happy? Can I allow myself to be truly happy and if not what is stopping me? The torture we put ourselves through is nuts. Go find something beautiful for today! Enjoy the day talk tomorrow.

At the age of two my brother slammed a swing into my face because he “hated me being in this world so much”, his words not mine, for some reason, he used to tell me this story all the time when we were growing up. His words “BK life was so great!” BK = Kalani. I have a bump on my lip from it that reminds me of those words every day. For the last 42 years I have suffered from self-loathing, feeling unworthy, and never being good enough.
In January 2021, I decided to end that. I decided that I HAVE to fix this part of me. I will not accidentally pass this mindset onto my children. I decided on January 22, 2021 to pick up the sledgehammer and start breaking down the walls that I have built up. I am breaking them down brick by brick. I have been on a mission to free myself from the thoughts that no longer serve me….funny thing – to end so much suffering … all it took was just to DECIDE to take a different path and off I went……. enjoy the journey.

I started on this journey because I saw how hurtful the things I kept telling myself were — I would look at my children (7 and 8) and vowed that I had to figure out a way to stop the negative self-talk – if not for me, then I HAD to do it for my children. I did not want to pass this legacy forward onto them.
We have over 6,000 thoughts a day.
When you pause and start listening to them – most of you will be horrified at what comes out – if you donʻt believe me begin to write these things down. If you are like me, you will cry your heart out at how mean you are to yourself.
We have got to stop this.
I have learned that it is possible to change your beliefs and thoughts through my studies and practice. Ironically, I was quite skeptical, but I figured, what do I have to lose? So when challenged by one of my mentors to start taking some selfies to get over my camera shyness – in true Kalani style, I took the challenge and decided I was going all in! That is how 100 days of self-love and my Sanity NOT vanity Project was born!
Enjoy the journey…..if you enjoy it – feel free to send along to your friends. If I am brave to share my story, I may be able to lift others along the way.
I figure, if I am brave to share MY story, I may be able to lift others along the way. Sometimes we feel like we must be the only one who struggles with negative self talk.

Mahalo for joining me on a personal journey of self-discovery and self-love. My hope is that I will illuminate a path to joy and happiness for you too! If you are already in a good place, I hope that I can deepen your strength and provide additional support to you along the way!
I encourage you to use the daily messages as a reminder to celebrate your own journey and connect with your own true self.
Self Improvement 101 is to start to say affirmations…… as first it may feel silly…but develop the habit anyway to get started…..Self improvement MASTERY is when you start to develop your own affirmations that are unique and special to you! You should work towards developing a spreadsheet, a working list in your journal, or you can take my idea and create your own photo diary as well….whatever floats your boat – the main thing here is that you just start.
I am on a mission to help lift up and empower as many women as I can, if you know of anybody that you think would benefit from joining in – feel free to invite them to join in any time. I strongly feel we need to build more community and more safe places to evolve so I am creating one 🙂 Have a beautiful day and talk soon 🙂
